“As a reminder, it is important to regularly monitor your credit reports, bank accounts, and credit card accounts,” police said. “Early detection can help you identify suspicious activity before it becomes more serious.”
The department suggested residents sign up for USPS Informed Delivery, a free service that provides a daily preview of eligible incoming mail and package notifications.
“This can help you recognize when an expected piece of mail is missing,” police said.
People who believe their mail or personal information has been stolen can place a free fraud alert on their credit reports, police said, adding that people call one of three major credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian or TransUnion — to place the alert.
“Taking a few minutes to monitor your accounts, know what mail is coming to your home, and acting quickly when something looks suspicious can make a significant difference in protecting your identity,” police said.
