Several drivers across Los Angeles County were without their cars Friday after investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) seized them for their connection to street takeovers following the Dodgers’ World Series win.
As thousands of Dodgers fans poured out into the streets of East Los Angeles last Saturday to celebrate the Dodgers’ back-to-back World Series Championships, some drivers conducted street takeovers and performed dangerous stunts, such as burnouts and donuts, in the middle of the street as pedestrians were walking around in the area.
Deputies with the LASD obtained several court orders to see the involved cars for up to 30 days. Five of the cars were located and impounded at a number of homes in LA, East LA and Norwalk, the sheriff’s department said.
“Although the investigation is ongoing, detectives are working diligently to identify the drivers of the seized vehicles and will be seeking criminal charges against each of the drivers involved,” LASD said in a statement.
Detectives expected to seize additional vehicles based on their evidence and observation.
Reckless driving, including speeding, racing, burnouts, donuts, and street takeovers are criminal offenses that the LASD pledges to investigate aggressively.
