LONG BEACH, Calif. — Berms, seawalls and sand bags were holding back tidal flood waters affecting a number of seaside areas of Southern California Wednesday.
High tides have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a coastal flood advisory that expires at 11:59 Wednesday.
The advisory affects the coastal region from Ventura to San Diego counties, including areas of Malibu and Long Beach, said the NWS.
“Minor coastal flooding expected during the evening high tides,” according to an NWS statement. “Coastal flooding concerns will peak each evening between about 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. due to astronomical high tides of 7.3 to 7.5 feet.”
Low-lying coastal areas, including parking lots, beaches and walkways were particularly vulnerable to flooding, forecasters said, while adding “significant damage to roads or structures is not expected.”

Still, the NWS advised those in affected areas to take steps to protect property and to use common sense by not driving through floodwaters or around barricades.
