Twin Rivers teachers enjoy sunrise kickoff rally ahead of the new school year
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Twin Rivers Unified teachers and staff came together for the SunRISE Rally to kick off their new school year on Wednesday.
Grant High School hosted the event at its football stadium and it featured teachers, support staff and administrators.
More than 3,000 people are employed by the district which services 45 schools and 25,000 students.
Dr. Tu Moua Carroz is the district’s new superintendent. She’s the district’s first female and first Hmong superintendent. She arrives with more than 25 years of public education experience having worked in the Roseville Joint Union, Sacramento City Unified and Woodland Join Unified Districts.
Carroz actually got her start in education at Grant High School. The district hasn’t held the SunRISE Rally for a few years. But Dr. Carroz made it a priority to bring back the in-person school year launch for staff.
Sal Garcia, principal at Madison Elementary, says the new superintendent is bringing a lot of positivity and momentum to the district and that the return of the SunRISE Rally event is a great team builder.
“It’s building community. Building on the enthusiasm a new school year brings for all of us. We’re excited for the new year and for the new superintendent and what a great way to get things going than by coming together,” says Garcia.
The first day of school for Twin Rivers Unified is Aug. 18.
