BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Three boys ages 12, 13, and 16 are facing murder and other charges in connection with a deadly shooting in east Bakersfield that killed 53-year-old Eric Lancaster.
The boys are accused in the July 18 shooting on Crane Street. Another person was also hurt and was identified by family in a GoFundMe as Lancaster’s father, Wes.
All three suspects are charged with murder, attempted murder and participating in a criminal street gang.

The Kern County District Attorney’s Office said the 12-year-old’s proceedings have been suspended pending a competency exam, with the medical report set to be heard Sept. 2. The 13-year-old suspect’s next hearing is Monday. Both the 12 and 13-year-olds are accused of using semi-automatic weapons in the crime.
Prosecutors have also filed a motion seeking to transfer the 16-year-old’s case to adult court. Under California law, the 12 and 13-year-olds cannot be transferred to adult court.
