HAUNTING HAPPENINGS? They do notably rule the autumn schedule at the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, each and every year, and for reasons that are quite clear: Sarah Winchester’s fabled abode is believed to be flush with a fantastical phantom-ical energy, the sort of ethereal vibe that emanates from the Great Beyond. But when October concludes, and Thanksgiving draws near, the Victorian mansion takes on a different character, one that is quite Christmassy, and plush, and old-fashioned, and delightfully doily-riffic. It’s when the Holidays at Winchester Mansion officially and elegantly begin, giving architecture aficionados the chance to admire vintage spaces wearing all sorts of baubles, bows, and opulent ornaments. And in 2025, five celebratory Saturdays, beginning Nov. 29, will be woven through with whimsy, the sort of whimsy that hails from the holiday season.
A MERRILY OFFBEAT MARKET… will return to the property, “with new vendors each week.” Fans of the Menagerie Yuletide Oddities & Curiosities know to expect cute photo opportunities, interesting and eerie items for sale, a coterie of characters on the grounds, and other diversions that marry Halloween to the holidays in spirit. A Holiday Open House will also flower over those five special Saturdays, with $15 entry and a free cup of hot cocoa to enhance the cozy atmosphere.
