Pitch decks by day, DJs at night: SoMa corporate space gets nightlife makeover

A team of Bay Area nightlife veterans is taking over the Foundry and wants you to forget everything you remember about attending corporate retreats and conferences at the Folsom Street venue. They are reviving it as a music venue and nightclub, according to Andrew Wasilewski, the incoming owner and general manager.

The Folsom Street Foundry stopped operations July 27 and is expected to reopen Aug. 22.

Wasilewski cofounded and operated the Faight Collective, an artist space in Lower Haight. “The Faight really showed me what it means to bring together communities of people around specific ideas,” he said, adding that he sees an opportunity to apply that same philosophy to nightlife.

Central to the venue’s identity is a rule of no phones on the dance floor (opens in new tab), requested with stickers and signage. “The culture we want to set is when you’re on our dance floor, you’re there to be present and be engaged,” he said, pointing to clubs in Berlin and New York as influences. There will be spaces carved out for conversation and texting, he noted.
