An Oakland man has been charged with attempted murder and other felonies after police accused him of opening fire on a married couple and their three children during a July confrontation.
Tahytus Johnson, 20, faces 12 felony counts, including attempted murder, assault with a firearm, child abuse and firearm-related offenses, according to court records provided to the San Jose Mercury News.
A judge ordered that he be held without bail, the records show.
The shooting occurred about 1:30 p.m. July 9 on the 1900 block of Market Street, police said. No one was injured.
About 30 minutes earlier, three women, including two of Johnson’s relatives, had gotten into an argument with one of the adults in the family, according to authorities.
Police said the couple pushed their children to the ground as gunfire erupted. The man then retrieved his own firearm, police said.
Police said surveillance footage led investigators to Johnson’s Instagram account, where they found images they said were consistent with the clothing worn by the shooting suspect.
Johnson also appears to have promoted music online, including through a public SoundCloud page.
Police said social-media accounts associated with Johnson and his brother, Taurus Johnson, identified them as part of a group of local rappers who use the acronym NBS, which stands for “Nobody Safe.”
