A Fresno police officer was arrested in Madera County during the early hours of Sunday after he arrived at the wrong home while drunk and became upset before trying to force his way in, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Tuesday.

Matthew Rodarte, 28, was arrested on suspicion of intent to terrorize, attempted burglary and disorderly conduct, and was released from the jail about 2 p.m. Sunday, according to jail records.

He’s worked patrol in Fresno’s southeast district for about four years, according to a Facebook post from Fresno police.

Madera deputies were called to a home about 1:45 a.m. Sunday near Cathedral Court and Peters Road in Madera west of Rolling Hills, according to the sheriff’s office.

Rodarte was intoxicated and tried to get into a home that he apparently confused for another residence, according to a sheriff’s spokesperson.

Rodarte has been placed on administrative leave while the case is under investigation, which is typical of such an arrest, according to Fresno police.

The cases for officers who are arrested are typically investigated by the arresting agency, as well as Fresno’s Internal Affairs and the Office of Independent Review. The independent reviewer job has been vacant in Fresno since August 2025.
