The end of summer is still a ways off, and so is October. But for some people, autumn and Halloween can’t arrive soon enough.

So it makes sense that Spirit Halloween has already started welcoming customers in shopping centers around the Sacramento area.

The pop-up Halloween stores, which sell costumes, decor, and animatronics, typically set up shop in vacant storefronts. This year, many former JoAnn, Party City, and drugstore buildings have found a second life—an afterlife?—as temporary hosts for Spirit stores.

There will be 10 Spirit Halloween stores in the Sacramento area in 2026, and most of them are currently open.

Spirit Halloween is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will be open with extended hours on Halloween. In 2026, Oct. 31 falls on a Saturday.

While locals can buy costumes year-round at institutions such as the newly reopened Evangeline’s in Old Sacramento, Spirit stores usually close in early November, after selling their remaining inventory at a discount.
