Downtown L.A. is about to get a whole lot more vertical! On Saturday, August 15, The Last Bookstore is hosting the Spring Arts Tower Takeover, transforming all 12 floors of the historic building into what’s being billed as “L.A.’s first and only vertical community market”. Expect hundreds of vendors spanning everything from handmade art and jewelry to collectibles, oddities, and more, all packed into one of downtown’s most iconic addresses.

The Spring Arts Tower in DTLA is a historic building that “now thrives as a creative arts studio and professional workspace”. The Last Bookstore’s flagship store is in the ground floor, and inside, you’ll find “over 500,000 books and records, collectibles, and a maze of art galleries, hidden spaces, and curiosities”.

What to expect from the event

The event kicks off at ground level inside The Last Bookstore, one of the most beloved independent bookstores in the country and a longtime downtown L.A. landmark. Known for its labyrinth of towering shelves, book-tunnel photo spot, and sprawling collection of new and used titles.

Once inside, you can make your way up through all 12 floors of the Spring Arts Tower, each one hosting a different mix of vendors. Think local artists, small businesses, vintage sellers, and curators of the strange and unusual, all set inside a building with real architectural history. Because of the building’s capacity, tickets are sold in two-hour entry windows, so you should plan around your assigned time slot. The event won’t be a one-off: organizers are planning to bring it back every third Saturday of the month, starting with this August 15 debut.
