BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department will hold a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint on Friday, August 14, at an undisclosed location within the city, between 6:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. A large-scale DUI Saturation Patrol will also be held at that time.
Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment; meanwhile, other officers will be checking drivers for proper licensing and temporarily delaying them.

When needed, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving, including not only illegal narcotics, but also many prescription drugs, marijuana, and even some over-the-counter medications.
Officials said the effects of DUI checkpoints are a proven resource in reducing the number of people killed and injured in alcohol or drug-related crashes.
Drivers caught while driving impaired can expect jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that could exceed $10,000.
Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
