A suspect who allegedly shot a man in the Tower District on Sunday was arrested after he intentionally rammed into an undercover detective vehicle Thursday and hit a parked car before fleeing near Valley Children’s Stadium.
According to Fresno Police Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega, Troy Franklin, 43, had a Ramey warrant for his arrest.
The department’s Street Violence Bureau Tactical Team learned that Franklin was in the area of First and Nees avenues around 10:05 a.m.
Officers saw him leaving a business and entering a vehicle. Detectives moved in to arrest Franklin, but he crashed into a detective’s vehicle before fleeing.
Trueba Vega said Franklin drove to Barstow and Millbrook avenues and was followed by the police helicopter.
Franklin hit a parked vehicle near the sorority houses west of Valley Children’s Stadium then ran from his vehicle, but officers soon took him into custody.
Detectives used Automated License Plate Readers to identify Franklin, whose accused by police of shooting a man during a disturbance between two groups at Olive and Lucerne on Sunday.
A man sustained a graze wound to the left ankle while attending his birthday party with others.
Police said the victim and his group were leaving the area when a black Chevy pulled away from the curb. The sole occupant of the Chevy, believed to be Franklin, confronted the victim and allegedly fired several rounds at the victim. As the victim ran, one of the people with him fired towards the suspect in self-defense.
The victim drove to the area of Second Street and Orleans Avenue to call the police.
Franklin will be booked at the Fresno County jail on charges related to the Tower District shooting and felony assault on a peace officer.
