For San Francisco Muni riders, Thursday brought a succession of small disruptions that added up to a frustrating day: staffing shortages on several bus routes, traffic signals out along the Embarcadero and, by evening, a cable problem that shut down one of the city’s three cable car lines.
The California Cable Car Line would remain out of service for the rest of the night, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said. Bus shuttles would replace the line, and riders could use the 1 California bus as an alternative.
The agency said the Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason cable car lines resumed service earlier after temporarily holding.
The disruptions began in the morning, when the agency warned that staffing levels could lead to longer waits on the 9, 15, 23, 27, 29, 37, 39, 48 and 54 routes.
A later alert cited possible extended waits on the 15, 29, 48 and 54 lines, followed by an evening warning for the 43 Masonic.
The agency also reported that traffic signals along the Embarcadero were out and told drivers to approach intersections with caution and treat them as four-way stops. SFMTA said the outage was causing residual delays on the F Market & Wharves streetcar line.
The agency did not provide a timetable for repairs to the cable system or traffic signals.
SFMTA directed riders to its real-time service alerts and customer service line at 311 for the latest information.
