The San Francisco Giants will host the 2028 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, bringing yet another major sporting event to the Bay Area.
Mayor Daniel Lurie and the league announced Friday that baseball’s biggest summer showcase will be played at Oracle Park for the first time in more than 20 years.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the Midsummer Classic to San Francisco, the ultimate celebration of Major League Baseball and one of our game’s greatest annual traditions,” the Giants said in a statement. “This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our organization, our city, and the incredible passion of our fans on baseball’s biggest summer stage.”

The annual contest will feature the top players in Major League Baseball on July 12, 2028 — days before the 2028 Summer Olympics open in Los Angeles, where baseball returns for the first time since 2020.
Whether the Giants would be selected to host the year’s All-Star Game had reportedly been tied to whether MLB players would be allowed to participate in the 2028 games.
Historically, the league has not allowed its stars to compete in the Olympics due to concerns about disrupting a packed summer schedule and injury risk.
