OAKLAND — A woman killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday night in East Oakland has been identified as Maribel Matias, the mother of a 7-year-old girl, authorities said Friday.
Police said Friday they have located the car that struck her but have not made any arrests.
Matias, 24, a Stockton resident, was struck by a car about 11:45 p.m. Saturday just south of the intersection of 73rd and Garfield avenues, across the street from the Eastmont police substation.
She was in the roadway and had been avoided by other vehicles before one driving northbound hit her, authorities said. The vehicle that hit her kept going. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said she had attended a party earlier in the evening not far from where she was killed.
Police have not said where they located the vehicle.
Known as a doting mother, her family said in an on-line obituary that she also “was part of many shared moments and relationships throughout life.
“Maribel will be remembered for the time spent with loved ones and the moments that brought joy to those around her. Friends and family will honor Maribel by reflecting on shared memories and the positive influence she had in their lives. Though Maribel is no longer present, the bonds she created and the experiences shared will endure. Maribel’s memory will continue to be a source of comfort for all who knew her,” the obituary says.
