A 60-year-old convicted vandal pleaded guilty Thursday and was immediately sentenced to six months in jail for vandalizing Christ Cathedral.
Ferdinand Bernal Ramos pleaded guilty to a count of vandalism and two counts of vandalism of religious property, all misdemeanors. Over the objection of prosecutors, Orange County Superior Court Judge Craig Robison offered a plea deal that reduced the originally filed felonies to misdemeanors.
Ramos has credit for 28 days behind bars.
Ramos vandalized Virgin Mary statues with a marker at Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove on July 18 and again on July 25, according to court records.
Ramos was charged in February with misdemeanor battery in a separate case, which was also resolved with the plea bargain Thursday.
Ramos had pleaded guilty Dec. 8 to vandalizing a Toyota dealer and was sentenced to a month in jail and placed on two years of probation, but he violated probation and was sentenced to another 60 days in jail on Dec. 30. Ramos was sentenced to another 90 days in jail Feb. 19 for a probation violation and another 180 days behind bars April 28.
According to a probation violation petition, Ramos tested positive for using methamphetamine and failed to report to probation as required.
Ramos pleaded guilty July 26, 2024, to a felony count of leading police on a chase and misdemeanor counts of hit and run with property damage and driving on a suspended license.
