The hurt mountain lion that was found in a San Dimas neighborhood last week has been euthanized, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) said Friday.
Wildlife officials responded to the residential area along Foothill Avenue, between San Dimas Avenue and San Dimas Canyon Road, after receiving a report of an injured mountain lion last Friday morning.
The CDFW said the male animal, which showed signs of external injuries, was tranquilized and taken to a veterinarian to be thoroughly examined.
During that examination, it was determined that the approximately 2-year-old mountain lion had a fracture to the right pelvis and lung contusions, the state agency said.
“Due to the severity of the injuries, the veterinarian recommended humane euthanasia, which was also supported by CDFW’s Wildlife Health Laboratory (WHL) veterinarian, and that took place later Friday,” the CDFW said in a statement.
The cause of the animal’s injuries is unknown. However, the department reminded people last week that vehicles are one of the leading causes of wildlife deaths in Los Angeles County.
