Coleman Borthwick is among the 2026 draftees building up at the Peoria Sports Complex. Those arms will more than likely debut in the bridge league — the unofficial, short-term developmental league that runs after the Arizona Complex League after the draft — but the 18-year-old right-hander could make his way to low Single-A Lake Elsinore late in the year, like Kruz Schoolcraft did to make one start over the final weekend of the 2025 season.

However, the bats that the Padres drafted last month have already begun to make their professional debuts in full-season ball and second-round shortstop Elliot Lascelles could join the Storm before long.

Borthwick is ranked No. 3 in MLB.com’s updating ranking of the Padres’ system, while Lascelles is ranked No. 5.

Here’s a look at the bats who’ve left the Padres’ spring training complex for final weeks of the regular minor league season:

C Robbie Lavey: A fourth-rounder out of George Washington, he’s the lone draftee to join high Single-A Fort Wayne and he hit his first professional home run on Friday in his second game with the TinCaps. Lavey, 20, signed for $600,000. He is ranked No. 20 in the system.

OF Alex Conover: The 20-year-old was a fourth-round compensation pick (Dylan Cease) who signed for $500,000 as the 134th overall pick, 10 spots after Lavey. The Oklahoma State product is hitting .269/.387/.462 with a homer and eight RBIs in seven games since joining low Single-A Lake Elsinore. Conover is ranked No. 21 in the system by MLB.com.

INF Nu’u Contrades: The Arizona State product is ranked No. 22 in the system after signing for $300,000 as their sixth-rounder. He’s got one homer and a .296/.441/.481 batting line through his first eight games with the Storm.

2B Joe Tiroly: The seventh-rounder out of Virginia signed for $225,000. He, too, has homered already, one of two hits in 12 at-bats to start his stay with the Storm.

C Augie Lopez: The 21-year-old USC product is 2-for-10 with a double and two RBIs in three games with the Storm. He signed for $10,000 after hitting 19 homers in 61 games during his last collegiate season.

1B Chris McHugh: The 11th-rounder hit nine homers in 56 games this year at NC State and has one homer in his first three games with the Storm (.583/.615/1.000). The 21-year-old signed for $170,000.

 

Alex McCoy breaking out

Alex McCoy isn’t comfortable quickly in the Double-A Texas League.

The 24-year-old outfielder was promoted to Double-A San Antonio on Friday and promptly homered twice during a four-hit game in his debut.

An undrafted free agent after the 2024 draft, McCoy was promoted to replace Jake Cunningham, who went on the injured list with a left groin strain.

Cunningham’s 19 homers are tops in the system.

McCoy is up to 17 after his two-homer game on Friday. He was hitting .268/.351/.469 with 15 homers, 55 RBIs and 20 steals in 97 games at high Single-A Fort Wayne.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound McCoy is ranked No. 25 in the Padres system by MLB.com.

Cunningham, 24, is ranked No. 24.

Frisco 14, Missions 12: McCoy drove in four runs on four hits, including two homers and a double. CF Braedon Karpathios (.777 OPS) drove in six runs on three hits, including two homers (14). LF Albert Fabian (.714 OPS) hit his ninth homer. 3B Luis Verdugo (.692 OPS) hit his eighth homer. LHP Jamie Hitt (6.11 ERA) allowed four runs in five innings in the start.

 

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (46-62)

Quad Cities, 5, TinCaps 4: In addition to Lavey’s home run, 2B Rosman Verdugo (.719 OPS) drove in three runs on his 13th home run. C Lamar King Jr. (.634 OPS) went 2-for-4 with a double. RHP Carson Montgomery (4.58 ERA) allowed three runs in four innings.

 

LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (60-52)

Storm 12, 66ers 4: SS Jorge Quintana (.686 OPS) drove in three runs on his sixth homer. LF Qrey Lott (.801 OPS) went 2-for-3 with his seventh homer. C Truitt Madonna (.689 OPS) went 2-for-4 with his fourth homer. Conover drove in three runs on two hits. RHP Victor Lizarraga 9.00 ERA) struck out six while allowing three runs in three innings in his first start following a demotion from Double-A San Antonio, where he was 3-7 with a 6.35 ERA in 68 innings. The 22-year-old signed out of Mexico for $1 million in March 2021.

 

ROOKIE DSL BROWN (11-42)

Athletics 9, Padres 2 (7): SS Ronnier Heras (.590 OPS) went 3-for-4. LF Luis Sanchez (.694 OPS) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Athletics 13, Padres 3 (7): Sanchez went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. DH Berman Moreno (.636 OPS) went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

 

ROOKIE DSL GOLD (39-14)

Padres 13, Guardians 5: SS Timothy Mogen (.700 OPS) drove in six runs on four hits, including his second homer and a double. RF Dayquer Alfonzo (1.039 OPS) went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, a walk and two runs scored.
