Billionaire tech investor scoops up another Fillmore building

When a tech investor bought a slew of commercial properties on Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights in 2024, it sparked fears of a “hostile takeover” (opens in new tab) that could displace beloved businesses. Two years later, street-level changes have begun to appear, with several new establishments on their way in and another building scooped up.

A group associated with venture capitalist Neil Mehta and his business partner Cody Allen recently purchased the property at 2035-2047 Fillmore St. for around $8.6 million, according to city records — and this time, some stakeholders are celebrating.

“The space has been sitting empty, and it will be amazing to have it start to get worked on,” said Tim Omi, president of the Fillmore Merchants Association (opens in new tab). The building — former home to the shoe store Aquatalia, the restaurant A-Pizza, and the clothing store Mio, started emptying out in 2022.
