Kyle Freeland pitched one of his best games of the season to help lead the Rockies to the 5-2 opening win on Friday. The longtime Rockies starter earned his fourth win of the season after going eight strong innings of one-run ball, while giving up just four hits. The only blemish for Freeland was a solo homer to Bryce Eldridge in the bottom of the fourth, which was a response to Troy Johnson driving in the first run of the game for Colorado in the top of the inning on a triple. The Rockies earned the go-ahead run in the fifth, and then Zac Veen hit his second homer of the season in the sixth to put the Rockies up 4-1 and for good. San Francisco scored again in the ninth off an RBI double from Rafael Devers, but the rally was too little, too late.
