(FOX40.COM) — On Sunday, community members went on a world tour without leaving Sacramento. Residents, performers and vendors joined together at the Leone Equestrian Center for the Sacramento Cultural Expo.

For some, culture is a core part of their identity. However, for others, it’s a lost piece of the distant past. Each person has a unique background and they all joined together to celebrate, honor and share their heritage.

Pakou Vang said she is reconnecting with her roots. She started her business, Golden Flower Fashion to dig deeper into her family’s history. She is celebrating her loved ones from Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and China.

“I’m a single mom, so I started my business with only $500 in my pocket and because when I was young, I [was] never really into my culture,” she said. “I’m more into my culture now, so I want to know where our tribes are from like all the stories.”

And over at WowMom Bakery, Claudia Rogus whipped up a taste of some sweets with Slavic influence. She’s retired and found her passion through baking.

“I make Russian tea cookies, or pecan sandies, and today we have gingerbread,” Rogus said. “I really love ethnic things where there’s multi-cultures involved and I feel like I’m really excited to be a part of it.”

TIME Magazine once ranked Sacramento America’s most diverse city. This event showcased different customs, traditions, clothing, foods and performances. Attendees said it showed how our differences can bring us together.

Tonita Aguilar moved to Sacramento from the Bay Area. As a single mother, she recently built her business Sweet Miracles Made With Love with her son. She told FOX40 she was proud to be a part of this event.

“Being here in the United States, it’s beautiful seeing everybody’s culture come together and seeing all different ethnicities and we all come together,” Aguilar said.

Vibrant colors, an aromatic kick and talent took the stage Sunday, but attendees said every day is a celebration of our diversity.

“We all support each other and it’s such a blessing,” Aguilar said. “It’s just so beautiful. It’s beautiful.”

Whether they came for the music, the food or to reconnect with their roots, people said it was a day well spent.
