SUV crashes into group of men fixing tire on side of Highway 50 in Sacramento, killing one
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
One person died, and three more were injured after a Sacramento freeway crash, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
The crash was reported around 11:35 p.m. Sunday along eastbound Highway 50 at 34th Street, CHP traffic logs show.
A vehicle pulled over to the right shoulder of the highway after one of its tires went flat, CHP said. The driver’s friends arrived to help with the tire and parked behind the first vehicle.
CHP said that’s when an SUV drifted off the roadway and directly into the four men. One of them died, another suffered major injuries, and the other two had minor injuries and did not go to the hospital.
The SUV driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers, CHP said. DUI is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
The identity of the man killed was not released.
