Tending the Flock:
Flock Safety’s automatic license-plate-reader cameras are in the news. Police love them, pretty much everybody else hates them. Manteca wants to acquire more, activists in Santa Cruz want to Get The Flock Out, and protests erupted in Woodland when officials renewed their Flock contract there.
Life on the Road:
We’ve written before about the small fortune in fines being generated in Manteca by their red light runner cameras, and note that in the neighboring city of Ripon, officials are grousing about needing to replace a traffic signal pole because of it being hit by cars so often.
Other news from San Joaquin County reveals that between 12.6% and 17.5% of the workforce in Manteca, Lathrop, Tracy, and Mountain House are designated “supercommuters” who drive up to (and sometimes over) 90 minutes EACH WAY between work and home.
I guess people are in a hurry, lest they be late for work…?
Farewell to Jackie:
Jackie the Eagle, beloved live streaming video star from Big Bear, passed away on August 10. Folks who’ve watched her for years via the Friends of Big Bear nest cameras were deeply touched and flooded social media with rememberances. And what of Shadow, her mate, raising their brood alone now? He’s maybe not so alone now…
