BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 34-year-old man was arrested Saturday morning after a two-hour standoff in which he was allegedly armed with knives inside an apartment with three children in Bakersfield.
The Bakersfield Police Department said on August 15, 2026, at around 8:32 a.m., officers responded to an apartment in the 900 block of Mohawk Street regarding a domestic violence incident.
Police said during the preliminary investigation, officers determined the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Juan Segura, was inside the apartment with three children and armed with knives.
Segura refused to get out of the apartment.

Bakersfield Police Department officers assigned to the Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT Team responded to assist in ensuring the safety of the kids while taking Segura into custody.
Police said about two hours after the initial officers responded, Segura got out of the residence and was arrested without incident.
According to police, it was determined that the juveniles involved were not hurt during the incident.
Segura was arrested for charges related to domestic violence and child abuse/endangerment.
