Police contacted 507 vehicles during the operation.

In addition to the DUI arrests, 18 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license.

Officials said DUI checkpoint locations are based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

They said the primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

The next DUI enforcement operation is scheduled for this weekend, when another DUI checkpoint is planned.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
