A 20-year-old man died on Sunday, Aug. 16, two days after police say he was shot while driving his car in the Cambodia Town neighborhood of Long Beach, authorities said.
Police initially were called to the area of 12th Street and Lewis Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. Friday on a report of a shooting. They found Cori Michael Scales of Long Beach inside a car that had crashed into an Edison pole, police said.
Scales had a gunshot wound and detectives learned he had been shot while he was driving, police said. Officers helped him until paramedics arrived and took Scales to a hospital.
The suspect, or suspects, fled before officers arrived, police said.
