SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The Cat Café located at the San Diego Humane Society campus was shut down by the county for a third time on Friday.
According to county records, the location on Gaines Street was shut down for an out of compliance permit. However, the café was also shut down back in June for multiple violations, which ironically included a major vermin problem.
It also was forced to close in 2023 for major sewage disposal issues, which means that there were major violations of overflow or back-ups of sewage or wastewater at the facility.
Records show that the café was re-inspected shortly after each violation and allowed to reopen once the issue was addressed.
The café is located on the San Diego Humane Society’s San Diego campus but is operated by a third party, said Nina Thompson with the San Diego Humane Society.
“The third party is responsible for all its operations, including ensuring the coffee cart operates in a manner that complies with Department of Environmental Health regulations and passes related inspections,” Thompson said in an email Sunday.
According to the San Diego Humane Society’s website, the Cat Café is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed Mondays.
