Coming off a 3-1 road victory over the San Jose Earthquakes, St. Louis CITY SC faces a quick turnaround as it travels to Kansas City to take on cross-state rival Sporting Kansas City at Sporting Park on Wednesday night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT, with the match available to stream on Apple TV and nationally on FS1.

St. Louis CITY SC continued its strong run of form with a 3-1 road victory over the San Jose Earthquakes, extending its unbeaten streak to 10 matches across all competitions – the longest unbeaten run in club history. CITY SC set the tone early, with Daniel Edelman opening the scoring in the eighth minute after finishing off a sublime pass from Conrad Wallem. Simon Becher doubled CITY SC’s advantage in the 27th minute, heading home a corner kick from Eduard Löwen to give St. Louis a 2-0 lead at halftime. San Jose pulled one back early in the second half but Becher restored CITY SC’s two-goal advantage, completing his brace with a volley off a cross from Tomas Totland. With the victory, St. Louis improved its all-time record against San Jose to 7-1-0 and remained unbeaten at PayPal Park with a 4-0-0 record since joining MLS in 2023.  

Following their performances against San Jose, Simon Becher and Dante Polvara were selected to the league’s Team of the Matchday, marking the first Team of the Matchday selections of the season for both players. Becher led CITY SC with a brace, bringing his season total to four goals to go along with his team-leading five assists. Polvara delivered a standout defensive performance, leading all players in the match with 14 defensive contributions. 

St. Louis CITY SC vs. Sporting KC 

The CITY SC-Sporting KC rivalry has produced highly contested matchups since the 2023 season and has always featured goals from both teams. Across nine regular-season meetings, St. Louis holds a 4-2-3 record against Sporting KC, outscoring its cross-state rivals 21-14. CITY SC is unbeaten in its last two meetings with Sporting KC, earning one win and one draw, but will be looking to secure its first-ever road victory at Sporting Park. The two teams last met in early July, when CITY SC earned a 3-2 victory at Energizer Park. 

Sporting KC is coming off a 2-0 road loss to the Colorado Rapids and currently sits 15th in the Western Conference standings with 14 points. Kansas City has been held scoreless in its last three matches while also receiving red cards in each of its last two games. Sporting KC’s most recent victory came on July 22 against Minnesota United, with Dejan Joveljić and Manu García finding the back of the net in the 2-0 win. Joveljić leads the squad with eight goals this season, while Calvin Harris leads the team in assists with five each.
