OAKLAND — A man  died early Tuesday after a collision with an Amtrak train at a railroad crossing in the Fruitvale District, authorities said.

Authorities did not identify the man immediately, pending the investigation and contacting of relatives.

The collision happened about 6:25 a.m. in the 800 block of 37th Avenue, just north of Interstate 880.

According to initial reports,  the man was pushing his stalled car across the tracks when he and the vehicle were  struck by the train.  Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

Few other details were available immediately. The crossing guard rail was up at the scene following the collision, but police said they were trying to confirm  exactly how  the collision happened.
