BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 35-year-old Bakersfield man died in Santa Ana after being struck by a vehicle while, police say, he was crossing outside a marked crosswalk early Sunday morning.
The Santa Ana Police Department said on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at around 4:53 a.m., the department received multiple calls regarding a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Yale Street.
Officers, along with Orange County Fire Authority, responded to the scene and found the pedestrian, later identified as 35-year-old Esteban Ramon Renterian of Bakersfield, lying in the roadway with injuries.
OCFA transported Renterian to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Santa Ana police said based on the preliminary investigation, Renterian was crossing southbound on Warner Avenue, outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police said the driver did not appear to be impaired.
