Man convicted of murdering woman who was stabbed 45 times, Sac County DA says
A man was convicted of first-degree murder of a woman who was stabbed to death in 2021, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said on Thursday.
The DA’s office said a jury found Ricky Sims, 41, guilty of personally using a deadly weapon to kill Marya Guillen, whom he shared a residence with.
Sims called 911 on Aug. 15, 2021, saying he stabbed Guillen in self-defense, officials said. When police arrived, he was covered in blood and Guillen was found inside her bedroom with 54 sharp force wounds, including 45 stab wounds across her body.
Sacramento County Main Jail records show Sims was booked on Aug. 18, 2021 on a murder charge.
Now that he has been convicted, Sims faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in prison. He will be sentenced on Oct. 23, the DA’s office said.
