The air-conditioning problems at Sierra Vista Mall continue to affect businesses more than a month after FOX26 first reported tenants were dealing with air conditioning issues.

During FOX26’s latest visit to the mall on Thursday, nine businesses were found to be using portable air-conditioning units.

FOX26 first reported the issue in July, when tenants described ongoing air-conditioning problems that had persisted for years.

Several businesses had portable A/C units recently installed by the mall owners to help cool their spaces.

At the time, tenants who spoke with FOX26 declined to appear on camera, saying they were concerned about possible retaliation and did not want to jeopardize efforts to get a permanent solution.

As of Thursday, several tenants told FOX26 their regular air-conditioning systems are still not working and that the underlying problems have yet to be fully resolved.

There are signs, however, that repairs are moving forward at some locations.

One tenant said crews were working above the business this week as part of an ongoing repair.

At another shop, not included in FOX26’s count, the owner said the air-conditioning system failed over the weekend, but crews responded quickly after he called. The system was back up by Monday.

The owner described it as the quickest repair he had experienced and credited FOX26’s coverage saying, something is working.

Famous Footwear also experienced another setback.

The store’s air-conditioning system was working Wednesday, but failed again Thursday, prompting the portable A/C units to return.

FOX26 again contacted Namdar Realty Group, one of the mall’s owners, with questions about when each affected business could expect permanent air-conditioning service to be restored.

The company did not provide answers to our questions a specific timeline for each location but did provide an update on work underway.

The company’s spokesperson said, ownership has confirmed the following status updates:

4 tenant HVAC units have received repairs, with continued monitoring and follow-up as needed.1 tenant unit is currently undergoing full replacement.2 tenant units are actively being addressed and are awaiting required parts.1 of the 3 common-area HVAC systems is currently under repair. The remaining 2 common-area systems are pending further assessment.

She also said they are also currently bidding and obtaining quotes for the renewal of an HVAC PM to further assist in ongoing maintenance.

According to several tenants, customers have called them to ask whether stores are open because of the air-conditioning problems.

Some businesses say the ongoing heat and uncertainty have affected customer traffic.

The owner of Jungle Party House said her business’s air conditioning is working properly, but she has noticed a decline in reservations. She believes some customers may assume the mall’s broader A/C problems are affecting her business as well.

But the concerns we’ve been following at Sierra Vista Mall aren’t the only ones raised against Namdar Realty Group.

In Citrus Heights, the city has taken legal action over conditions at Sunrise Mall, another property owned by Namdar Realty Group.

That lawsuit was filed in 2025 and remains ongoing, with a hearing scheduled for next year.

FOX26 asked the City of Clovis whether it would consider similar legal action regarding conditions at Sierra Vista Mall. The city acknowledged receiving the questions but had not provided answers at the time of the report.

FOX26 also filed a public-records request with the City of Clovis seeking communications between the city and mall ownership concerning the HVAC problems, cooling-center concerns and conditions inside the mall.

A city spokesperson said there had been communication between the city and the mall.

However, FOX26 did not find documentation of those conversations in the records provided.

FOX26 asked the city to clarify or provide additional records.

The records that were provided to us did show city staff discussing FOX26’s upcoming coverage and whether Sierra Vista Mall should remain designated as a cooling center amid concerns about the mall’s air-conditioning.
