A Sacramento County jury convicted Jonathan Arredondo-Garcia of two counts of first-degree felony murder from a 2023 crime spree that ended in a fatal crash.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A jury convicted Jonathan Arredondo-Garcia of two counts of first-degree felony murder in connection with a 2023 crime spree in south Sacramento that ended in a crash, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said.
Arredondo-Garcia was also convicted of two counts of robbery, carjacking, two counts of attempted carjacking, hit-and-run and resisting arrest. Jurors found special-circumstance allegations involving multiple murders and murder during a carjacking, as well as the use of a knife enhancement.

Prosecutors said Arredondo-Garcia went on a 30-minute crime spree on Jan. 19, 2023. He first entered a victim’s garage armed with a knife and demanded the keys to a van. The victim confronted him with a plumbing tool, causing Arredondo-Garcia to flee.
Minutes later, prosecutors said he ran in front of a vehicle and intentionally struck the front end, causing significant damage. He then entered another garage, pushed a woman to the ground and stole her vehicle.
Arredondo-Garcia drove the stolen vehicle at about 98 mph before running a red light at Florin Road and Florin-Perkins Road, causing a crash that killed two people, according to officials.
After the crash, Arredondo-Garcia allegedly tried to carjack another driver before bystanders restrained him. A nearby Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy responded, but Arredondo-Garcia resisted arrest until additional deputies arrived.
Arredondo-Garcia faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 11, 2026, in Sacramento County Superior Court.
