A student was injured in an assault involving a deadly weapon at a Long Beach high school Thursday morning, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly before noon at Woodrow Wilson High School in the 4400 block of East 10th Street following a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to Long Beach police.
Upon arrival, officers found a male juvenile with a wound to his upper body.
School staff responded to the incident and treated the student for a puncture wound before paramedics were called, according to the Long Beach Unified School District. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the student to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police said a juvenile suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
Information about the victim, suspect and the type of weapon allegedly used was not immediately available.
District safety personnel and Long Beach police are investigating the incident. Additional patrols were deployed to the campus following the assault, according to school officials.
