Two people are dead after a Thursday afternoon shooting at a home in an east-central Fresno neighborhood.
Lt. James Rossetti said officers from the department’s Southeast Policing District responded to the shooting cal.
“Approximately 4:19, officers from the southeast district received a call regarding a shooting, they later arrived subsequently went inside the residence located two individuals,” Rossetti said.
Despite life-saving efforts, the two were pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting shocked neighbors in an area residents described as typically quiet.
“This neighborhood, it’s really nice. It’s usually really quiet,” neighbor Bryce Dunkley said.
Dunkley said he returned home from school and encountered a large emergency response in the neighborhood.
“I was at school. Um, and I came in from Fowler, and so I turned it on to the street, and I see, like, a bunch of, like, police cars. There’s ambulance with sirens on. And the whole street was blocked off. I was like, what is going on?” he said.
Police described the shooting as an isolated incident.
“It’s an isolated incident. We believe, and that’s pretty much what I can tell you right now,” Rossetti said.
The incident prompted concern among nearby residents.
“Just to think that, like, something like that could happen in neighborhood, it’s kind of like eye opening. Um, it makes you really, like, think about what’s going on, like, other people’s houses that you live by,” Dunkley said.
Fresno police have not confirmed the relationship between the two victims.
