A 52-year-old woman is facing a second-degree murder charge after authorities said she was involved in a suspected DUI crash that killed a young girl and injured five other people in Riverside County.
Silvia Corona, a San Jacinto resident, was identified as the suspect in the Aug. 15 collision following an investigation by the Perris Sheriff’s Station Traffic Reconstruction Team, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at about 5:36 p.m. at the intersection of Ramona Expressway and Rider Street in Perris.

When deputies arrived, they found five injured people in one of the vehicles, two of whom suffered life-threatening injuries.
The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle was also injured, authorities said.
All six people were taken to area hospitals, where one of the passengers, identified as 8-year-old Camila Leon, later died from her injuries.
According to a GoFundMe campaign organized for the family, Camila’s brother and father remain in critical condition, while her mother is stable.
Corona was arrested Aug. 17 and booked into the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, officials said.
She posted bail and was released from custody the following day.

On Aug. 20, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office issued a warrant for Corona’s arrest on an additional charge of second-degree murder, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies went to Corona’s residence and took her into custody without incident.

She was booked again into the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center, this time on the murder charge, with bail set at $1 million.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and that no additional details are being released at this time.
