MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s soccer team started the 2026 season with a 2-2 draw against Oakland on Thursday night at Valley Fields.
Marquette struck quickly with Mateo Stoka intercepting a pass just outside the Golden Grizzlies box less than two minutes into the match. A one-two with Mads Konrad Horgøien and Stoka ripped a left-footed shot past the Oakland keeper.
Oakland leveled the game in the 36th minute with a quick strike down right side where Grant Mateer found Cal Kurzawa just outside the six-yard box.
Tomiwa Adewumi put the Golden Eagles ahead in the 72nd minute, scoring his first career goal. Pulling down a long ball into the box, the freshman spun off his defender, got around the keeper and slotted his attempt just across the line.
Four Golden Eagles made their Marquette debuts, including freshmen Gabriel Watkins and Tomiwa Adewumi who earned the start.
