A juvenile was hospitalized after a fight at Oakland’s Castlemont High School Thursday morning, according to the Oakland Police Department and Oakland Unified School District.
The incident occurred shortly after 10:15 a.m. in a back parking lot, where several people had a disagreement that led to a physical altercation, the district said.
Police initially responded to a report of a stabbing and later learned that the juvenile was injured “by a bladed object” during a fight.
Paramedics took the juvenile to an area hospital, where the victim was listed in stable condition. The district described the injury as non-life-threatening.
Multiple juveniles were detained in connection with the incident, police said.
Officers were speaking with people believed to be involved, according to the district.
The school briefly entered secure school protocol, keeping students and staff inside classrooms and offices while police investigated. Oakland police gave the all-clear shortly after 11:30 a.m., and the school returned to normal operations, including lunch, the district said.
“We are working closely with their family to ensure they have what they need,” the school district said in a statement. “Everyone who was impacted by this incident is being supported by school and district staff.”
The 2026-27 school year for the Oakland Unified School District began Aug. 10, according to the district calendar.
