Seven protesters who were convicted of blocking the Golden Gate Bridge at the start of the Israel-Hamas war will be sentenced by a San Francisco judge Friday.
Six protesters are facing a maximum sentence of five years, while the seventh faces up to five and a half years. Sentencing is scheduled to take place at 1:30 p.m.
Back in 2024, protestors shut down the Golden Gate Bridge for hours during the morning commute. The protestors, dubbed the “Golden Gate 26,” were eventually arrested and hit with multiple charges, including false imprisonment.
The majority of the protestors avoided trial, but seven of them went through a weekslong trial that ended with a guilty verdict for false imprisonment.
The protestors narrowly avoided a more severe charge of felony conspiracy, which could have carried a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
