Tickets to see Guillermo del Toro introduce a brand-new 3D restoration of Pan’s Labyrinth in Los Angeles disappeared fast. But if you missed out, there’s still a chance to get inside the sold-out screening.
The North American premiere of Pan’s Labyrinth in 3D is happening at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on Thursday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m., with del Toro himself appearing in person to introduce the film.
The highly anticipated screening is already listed as sold out, but the Academy Museum has a standby system that could give hopeful moviegoers another shot at tickets.
How to get into the sold-out screening
If you didn’t manage to grab a ticket, don’t give up hope just yet!
The Academy Museum says that additional tickets may be released at 9 a.m. on the day of the event through the screening’s ticket page.
There will also be a standby line on the day of the screening, with tickets sold on a first-come, first-served basis depending on available seats. The museum notes that standby admission is not guaranteed, so you’ll want to arrive early and be prepared to wait it out.
The museum’s general policy confirms that sold-out screenings have standby lines unless otherwise indicated, with limited tickets potentially becoming available because of open seats.
In other words – refresh the ticket page at 9 a.m. on October 1, then head to the Academy Museum early if you’re still empty-handed.
Why everyone wants to see it
This isn’t just another screening of Pan’s Labyrinth. The 2006 dark fantasy classic will be shown in a brand-new 3D restoration, which del Toro personally supervised using the original 35mm negative.
The filmmaker will also be there in person to introduce the film.
The movie follows 10-year-old Ofelia, who discovers a mysterious labyrinth in the forest while living in Francoist Spain. There, a faun tells her that she is a long-lost princess and gives her three magical tasks to complete.
The film went on to earn six Academy Award nominations, winning three for Art Direction, Cinematography and Makeup.
