OAKLAND — A fight among a group of people led to a stabbing at Castlemont High School on Thursday and put one person in a hospital, police said.
Officers were called to the school about 10:15 a.m.
In a statement, Oakland police said they initially responded to reports of a stabbing and said a person under 18 was “injured by a bladed object.” Police said that person went by ambulance to a hospital for treatment and was in stable condition.
Police said that officers detained several juveniles. Police did not announce any arrests immediately.
The Oakland Unified School District in a statement said the fight happened in the back parking lot after a disagreement. Following the stabbing, school officials locked the school down per district protocol, with students remaining in their class and officials in their offices. The lockdown was lifted about 11:30 a.m., and the school returned to normal operations.
“In addition to to academics, schools across OUSD teach social emotional learning skills, which include anger management and conflict resolution,” the district said. “And we implore our students to use these skills every chance they get to resolve their difference peacefully.”
Detectives were looking for anything to help them with the investigation, including any video taken of the fight. They asked anyone who may be able to help to contact their felony assault unit at 510-238-3426 or cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.
