OAKLAND, Tenn. (WMC) – A suspected pipe bomb discovered inside an Oakland home prompted evacuations and a large multi-agency response Saturday morning.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office spoke with Action News 5, stating that deputies responded to a home on Chestnut Ridge near Highway 194 between 7 and 8 this morning, after a loved one found a man dead inside. While inside the residence, deputies found what appeared to be a pipe bomb.
Following safety protocols, the Shelby County bomb squad was called to the scene.
The surrounding residents have been evacuated as the scene remains active.
The Oakland Police Department has closed roads in the area and is advising drivers to seek alternate routes.
