Fresno Chaffee Zoo
Fenny, the Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s male Masai giraffe, has died.
“This is a heartbreaking loss to our Zoo’s family,” officials wrote. “Fenny was a key member of our giraffe herd and has had a meaningful impact on the hearts of both staff and guests alike.”
Zoo officials said Fenny had been undergoing treatment for a fracture in one of his hooves since May.
The Zoo’s Animal Care and veterinary teams treated the injury, including applying a “shoe” to his hoof.
Officials said complications arose under anesthesia before he died on Friday.
Fenny arrived at the Chaffee Zoo in 2019 and served as an educational ambassador for his species.
