Investigators have circulated photos of 27 suspects in the AutoZone burglaries in East L.A.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is asking the public for help in identifying 27 individuals in connection with multiple East L.A. AutoZone burglaries that occurred during “street takeovers” last weekend.

Multiple robberies occurred at the AutoZone located in the 1130 block of S. Atlantic Boulevard. Authorities say a group of unknown suspects broke into the store by shattering the glass entry doors at approximately 2:22 a.m. on Aug. 8. The following day, a second burglary occurred at around 3:30 a.m.

The photos shared by LASD were pulled from security camera video inside the shop. Deputies say the video showed one suspect breaking the AutoZone entry door as 10 additional suspects entered. A social post by LASD described the group as being “involved in a coordinated, mob-like burglary of the business, resulting in significant loss and damage to the business.”

“The method of operation for both incidents was similar and occurred … during a street racing/street take-over,” deputies said.

Street takeovers have been occurring throughout Los Angeles in recent years, with a notable “TikTok takeover” taking place in Newport Beach on July 4, resulting in the arrest of 402 people, many of whom were teens.

Most recently, a massive street takeover blocked an intersection near the 15100 block of Bellflower Boulevard on Saturday, and a nearby business was ransacked in the chaos, resulting in $30,000 in damages and inventory loss. No arrests were made in connection with this burglary. 

A LASD Street Takeovers Statistical Summary found that there were a total of 135 takeovers between January and March of this year, but noted this is a 12 percent drop from Q1 of last year. Officials calculated that approximately $190,000 in damages occurred, not including larger impacts to transportation infrastructure.
