OAKLAND, Tenn. (WZTV) — Roads were closed and residents were asked to evacuate Saturday in Oakland, Tennessee while bomb units responded to an active scene.

Sections of Highway 194 and Chestnut Ridge Drive were closed Saturday while Oakland Police Department officers responded to an incident.

Police and the Oakland Fire Department released urgent social media updates alerting people to avoid the area.

Roads were closed for hours while crews from multiple agencies worked to mitigate the incident.

People were told they could return to their homes around 7 p.m. Saturday night, and the latest update from Oakland Police reports that a device located inside one of the homes on Chestnut Ridge was removed and disposed of by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office bomb unit.
