Activist and former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is scheduled to headline an author talk at Sacramento’s historic Guild Theater on Sept. 21, hosted by Underground Books.
The Sacramento stop is part of an 11-city national tour launching alongside the release of Kaepernick’s memoir, “The Perilous Fight,” published by Legacy Lit and scheduled for release on Sept. 15.
The nationwide tour is being organized by the National Association of Black Bookstores (NAB2), a member-based nonprofit founded September 2025 during Sacramento’s inaugural BlkLit Book Festival by former Sacramento Mayor and Underground Books owner Kevin Johnson. Johnson established the organization in honor of his late mother, Georgia “Mother Rose” Peat West, who founded Underground Books in 2003.
“The National Association of Black Bookstores (NAB2), which we founded a year ago, was selected to lead Colin Kaepernick’s national book tour,” organization leaders told The OBSERVER. “We’re thankful to Colin for partnering with Black bookstores.”
