A man, believed to have been speeding and driving under the influence, died in a two-vehicle crash in Long Beach that also sent two women to a hospital Saturday night, Aug. 22, authorities said.
At around 10:35 p.m., the man, driving a 2026 Tesla and allegedly speeding westbound along Pacific Coast Highway, collided with a 2025 Volkswagen leaving a shopping center, Long Beach police said.
The Volkswagen then hit a sign, police said.
The Tesla continued forward, running into a cinderblock wall and damaging several parked vehicles, police said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died.
The two women in the Volkswagen – a 48-year-old driver and a 43-year-old passenger – were also hospitalized, police said. An update on the condition of the two women was not available.
Police said both high speed and impaired driving appear to have played a role in the crash. It was not immediately clear if it was believed drugs or alcohol were involved.
The man’s identity was not released by police pending notification of his relatives.
