OC Unemployment Rises to 4.2% in July

Orange County’s unemployment rate rose to 4.2% in July from a revised 4.1% in June and below the 4.6% in July last year, according to the state’s Employment Development Department.

The state’s unemployment rate was 5.3% while the U.S.’s was 4.4%.

Nonfarm OC employment fell to 1.69 million, down 7,800 jobs.

The government sector fell the most, declining 7,900 jobs due to the summer recess for teachers.

Professional and business services decreased 1,000 jobs, mostly in administrative services.

The state’s nonfarm jobs fell 20,500 jobs to 18.1 million in July.
