An elderly man who was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross 11 Mile Road in Southfield in an electric wheelchair on Saturday evening has died, officials said.
Police didn’t release the man’s name but said he was 87 years old and had been a Southfield resident.
According to a spokesperson from the Southfield Police Department, the collision happened at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 in the area of 11 Mile Road and Marshall Street. The vehicle that reportedly struck him was westbound on 11 Mile Road. The driver remained at the scene, police said.
Due to the crash, 11 Mile Road was closed between Greenfield Road and Fairfax Street but later reopened.
The incident remains under investigation.
